When choosing Day 1 CPT programs/courses, you want to follow 3 main principles to avoid RFE in the future:

1. The Day 1 CPT Program should be as different as it can be from your last degree

   Holding two academic degrees in the same or similar subjects could raise suspicions with the USCIS. The agency may scrutinize the rationale behind pursuing a second degree with overlapping content. This similarity could pose challenges in renewing your F1 visa since it might complicate the process as you'll need to explain why you chose to study the same field again. Visa officers will rigorously assess your intentions, potentially elevating the likelihood of application denial. It's worth noting that this guideline is not exclusive to Day 1 CPT programs but serves as a broader rule.

2. The Day 1 CPT Program you choose should be as close as to your JD

   The eligibility for CPT authorization at Day 1 CPT Universities hinges on specific criteria. While the CPT authorization is issued by the educational institution and doesn't necessitate USCIS intervention, it is subject to specific rules and regulations. If the nature of your employment deviates significantly from the curriculum of your Day 1 CPT program, Day 1 CPT universities may withhold CPT authorizations. The CPT internship or job must align closely with the academic content of your program.

3. Ideally, the Day 1 CPT program you choose should be at a higher level than your last degree

   While the decision to further your academic journey is personal, from the USCIS's viewpoint, it is more logical for international students to seek advanced degrees after completing one in the U.S. It's not uncommon for international students to possess two or even three master's degrees from different disciplines. However, having five master's degrees might raise concerns about your intention to extend your academic stay. Conversely, progressing from a bachelor's to a master's and then to a doctoral program presents a more "natural" academic trajectory.
